A Chinese handscroll dating from between 1296 - 1359 CE, when [China](https://www.worldhistory.org/china/) was ruled by the Mongolian [Yuan Dynasty](https://www.worldhistory.org/Yuan_Dynasty/). The handscroll depicts grooms with their horses, a theme which became increasingly popular during this period due to the high value placed on horsemanship in Mongolian [culture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/culture/).
