A painting of the aftermath of the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Indus (1221 CE), from the Chinggiskhannama. The painting depicts Jalal al-Din Mingburnu (1199 - 1231 CE), the last ruler of the Khwarazmian dynasty, crossing the Indus River to escape the onslaught of [Genghis Khan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Genghis_Khan/) (r. 1206 - 1227 CE). Jalal al-Din was defeated by the superior forces of Genghis Khan, and forced to flee alone across the Indus River to safety. Made in [India](https://www.worldhistory.org/india/), 1596 - 1600 CE.
