This calcite-alabaster chest and its lid were made for storing the canopic jars of Shoshenq I (reigned 943-922 BCE), the founder of the 22nd (Bubastite or Libyan) Dynasty of [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/). The nomen and prenomen cartouches of Shoshenq I are carved on the surface. The precise provenance of Shoshenq I's [tomb](https://www.worldhistory.org/tomb/) is unknown. This relic is the only funerary object linked to Shoshenq I; in 1891 CE, [Julius](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Julius/) Isaac donated this canopic chest to the [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) Museum of Berlin (now part of the Neues Museum). From Egypt. [Third Intermediate Period](https://www.worldhistory.org/Third_Intermediate_Period_of_Egypt/). It is on display at the Neues Museum, Berlin, Germany.
