This map shows the territorial extent of the Rashtrakuta (8th century CE - 10th century CE), Gurjara-Pratihara or Pratihara (8th century CE - 11th century CE) and Pala (8th century CE - 12th century CE) empires.
These three empires flourished in the late ancient period in India (8th century CE onwards) and engaged in constant warfare with each other over the control of the strategically and economically important Kanyakubja (Kannauj) Kingdom.
The overlapping areas in the map show conquests which changed with time, depending on which empire was strong enough, either to conquer enemy territory or to retake its lost areas.
