## Image Caption

This limestone slab carved in relief shows two deities. On the right, the goddess Al-Lat is depicted, she wears a military dress and helmet and holds a spear in her right hand and a shield in her left arm. Her appearance is similar to [Athena](https://www.worldhistory.org/athena/), and [Medusa](https://www.worldhistory.org/Medusa/) appears on her chest. The male deity on her right side was depicted smaller in size and is older in age but is unidentified. His left hand grasps a snake while his right hand stabs it. This panel was placed on a stone base and the Aramaic inscription beside it mentions that it was dedicated by the priestess Martbo. From the 5th [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) at Hatra, Ninawa Governorate, Iraq. Parthian period, 1st to 3rd century CE. On display at the Iraq Museum in Baghdad, Republic of Iraq.
