# Princess Doshafri from Hatra

This is the upper part of the statue of princess "Doshafri", daughter of king Sanatruq I of Hatra (reigned c. 140 - 180 CE). Although the statue is somewhat weathered, it is an excellent example conveying the appearance of a Hatrene princess. The Mesopotamian [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) [Shamash](https://www.worldhistory.org/Utu-Shamash/) appears on the front aspect of her elegant headdress. The pieces of jewelry on the headdress, neck, arms, and fingers were carefully depicted. Made of limestone. The height of the statue is 222 cm. The Aramaic inscription on the base of the statue (not shown here) says it was made in the year 138 CE. From the 5th [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) at Hatra, Ninawa Governorate, Iraq. Parthian period, 2nd century CE. On display at the Iraq Museum in Baghdad, Republic of Iraq.
