## Image Caption

A 4th - 2nd Century BCE [copper](https://www.worldhistory.org/copper/) alloy shield boss from Wandsworth, [England](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/england/). This shield boss is approximately 32.8 centimeters (12.9 inches) in diameter, and was once fixed to the front of a wooden shield by six rivets. The shield boss is [Celtic](https://www.worldhistory.org/celt/), decorated in the [La Tene](https://www.worldhistory.org/La_Tene_Culture/) style which originated in [Iron Age](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Iron_Age/) Central [Europe](https://www.worldhistory.org/europe/). Although the shield boss is circular, the shield it was attached to was probably oblong like other examples of La Tene shields with circular bosses. From the British Museum in London.
