## Image Caption

An elephant and a griffon attack warriors with so-called [Celtic](https://www.worldhistory.org/celt/) shields, a common theme on [Hellenistic](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hellenic_World/) [faience](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Faience/) ware. The image is based on a faience shard perhaps from [Memphis](https://www.worldhistory.org/Memphis_(Ancient_Egypt)/), c. 3rd century BCE, now in the collection of the Allard Pierson Museum, Amsterdam (APM inv. no. 7614).
