## Image Caption

The [Roman military](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Army/) hospital (or Valetudinarium) in Novae, Bulgaria. Novae was the site of an important [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) fortress along the Danubian border. Like other major Roman fortresses along the borders of the [Roman Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Empire/), this fort had its own hospital to care for sick and wounded soldiers.
