## Image Caption

This full-page illustration depicts [Geoffrey Chaucer](https://www.worldhistory.org/Geoffrey_Chaucer/) (c. 1343 - 1400 CE) reading his poem Troilus and Criseyde to the court of [Richard II of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Richard_II_of_England/) (1367 - 1400 CE). This copy of Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde was made c. 1415 - 1425 CE, long after the poem was originally written sometime before 1385. The copy was planned to contain over 90 illustrations, although only the frontispiece was ever painted and blank spaces remain throughout the rest of the manuscript. The manuscript containing this illustration is now in the Parker Library at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, UK.
