## Image Caption

This almost 3 meters high alabaster bas-relief depicts the Assyrian king [Sargon II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sargon_II/) (left; wearing the typical conical hat). Recognizable by the long sword hanging on his side, diadem, long curly beard, and the elegant dress, a figure greets the king in close proximity, almost touching him, indicating a very high-ranking official. This is Turtanu (in Assyrian); he is the chief-in-command of the king and 2nd in command of the whole Assyrian [empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/empire/). This relief is part of a long tributary scene, where the king stands majestically, waiting to receive the tribute from [Urartu](https://www.worldhistory.org/Urartu_Civilization/) (modern-day [Armenia](https://www.worldhistory.org/armenia/)). From the Royal [Palace](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/palace/) of [Sargon](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/sargon/) II at Khorsabad, in modern-day [Nineveh](https://www.worldhistory.org/nineveh/) Governorate, Iraq. Circa 710 BCE. On display at Room X of the Iraqi Museum in Baghdad, Republic of Iraq.
