# Proto-geometric Amphora

The Proto-geometric style (1000-900 BCE) of [Greek pottery](https://www.worldhistory.org/Greek_Pottery/) decoration was a forerunner of the full Geometric style. This [amphora](https://www.worldhistory.org/Amphora/) dates from the first half of the 10th century BCE and displays the popular circle design. These were achieved using multiple fixed brushes attached to a compass. Also typical of the style are the plain black horizontal bands. (British Museum, London).
