Marble portrait of the [Roman Emperor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Emperor/) who reigned from 161 to 180 CE. His statues were raised in [cities](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) across the [Roman Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Empire/); this head was found in the exedra of Qasr al-Bint [Temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) at Petra. An inscription reveals that it was set there by the governor of Provincia [Arabia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Arabia/), Publius Iulius Geminius Marcianus. A second portrait in the same exedra is of co-regent [Lucius Verus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Lucius_Verus/) (who died in 169 CE).
