Melpomene, one of the nine [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) [muses](https://www.worldhistory.org/muse/) and patron of [Greek tragedy](https://www.worldhistory.org/Greek_Tragedy/), holding a mask of [Pan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Pan/) or a [satyr](https://www.worldhistory.org/satyr/), instead of the tragic mask usually associated with her. This relief is one of a group of architectural sculptures that were discovered near the temenos gate of the [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of Qasr al-Bint in Raqmu-Petra, which probably decorated an earlier structure at the location. From Raqmu-Petra, [Jordan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jordan/), [Kingdom of Nabatea](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kingdom_of_Nabatea/), first half of the 1st century CE.
