## Image Caption

Male head carved of yellowish limestone with traces of ochre paint and crowned in the [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) "atef" style. He has Western Asiatic lineament, such as the beard, straight mustache, big eyes, and long neck. The nose is broken. While the right pupil is clearly marked, the left one has worn away. The Egyptian atef crown designated gods as well as kings in Ammonite sculptures. This is probably a representation of the original atef crown bearer, the Egyptian [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) [Osiris](https://www.worldhistory.org/osiris/), who retains his upswept outlined Egyptian eyes; however, he is given a local Western Asiatic hair. The cult of [Isis](https://www.worldhistory.org/isis/) and Osiris was very popular in [Jordan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jordan/) and gained more followers during the Classical periods. [Iron Age](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Iron_Age/), II, 8th century BCE. From Amman Citadel, Amman, Jordan. (The Jordan Museum, Amman, Jordan).
