Editorial Reviews

Review

[The Urban Trails] guidebooks serve as an awesome tool for finding hidden hiking gems and pockets of greenspace close to home…. The perfect size for throwing in your pack, and full of great information. ― Washington Trails Association

Now's the perfect season for another of the pocket-sized "Urban Trails" guides from Mountaineers Books and prolific scribe Craig Romano. While upland trails are still snowbound, grab his recently published "Urban Trails: Olympia" for a pocketful of ideas on where to go for a lowland, late-winter or early spring hike around the scenic South Sound. -- Brian Cantwell ―

This has been such a great guide! We’re using it a lot to get out in a secluded way during COVID. I’m learning tons about an area I’ve lived in a long time!

Has all the info you need for hikes and walks in the area, including directions, dog friendly trails, distance and difficulty of hikes and walks. If you need a Discover Pass, it tells you. It has pictures and is small enough to carry in your pocket. I frequently use Romano's books in planning trips.

Craig Romano has a whole series of urban trails books, based on locations like Olympia, Bellingham, Shoreline, etc. all of his books are user friendly, and accessible to use by a variety of walkers...moms with kids, singletons, beginner hikers, etc. I have several of his books, because sometimes I just want to explore beyond my backyard, and his books are an excellent resource. I have hiked the area for 30 years using a variety of resources and can say Craig's guidance/descriptions have not steered me wrong yet.
