NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This on-point guide to growing up by Instagram sensation Mari Andrew features “achingly vulnerable and completely relatable watercolor illustrations about relationships, heartbreak and the struggles of urban life” (The Washington Post).

In the journey toward adulthood, it is easy to find yourself treading the path of those who came before you; the path often appears straight and narrow, with a few bumps in the road and a little scenery to keep you inspired. But what if you don’t want to walk a worn path? What if you want to wander? What if there is no map to guide you through the detours life throws your way?

From creating a home in a new city to understanding the link between a good hair dryer and good self-esteem to dealing with the depths of heartache and loss, these tales of the twentysomething document a road less traveled—a road that sometimes is just the way you’re meant to go.

Praise for Am I There Yet?

“Equal parts memoir and illustrated guidebook, it chronicles Andrew’s journey through adulthood as she navigates love and heartbreak, professional indecision and success, and personal struggles.”Refinery29

“Using her artistic skills to illustrate thought-provoking essays, Andrew inspires readers to take the path less traveled in life.”—CNN

“The illustrations . . . are often packed with truths about dating, self-care, careers, and all the secret thoughts you never say out loud.”
Elle

“This uplifting book is filled with essays and illustrations that will fill you with so much hope as you move forward with any big life change.”Bustle

“Her illustrations will resonate with anyone who has ever had a crush, went on a date, or felt the sting of heartbreak.”

LOVE! Authentic, vulnerable, funny. I’m in my 40s and find Mari’s stories are so relatable. Her drawings are fun and beautiful. You’ll wish you had many pages framed and on your wall. My husband read and loved it, our nine year old enjoyed flipping through it, and I’m buying several copies for friends. Thank you, Mari for putting this out and into the world!

This collection of wit and wisdom about navigating life would be a perfect gift for women in their twenties, but it also reads great for us older folks who’ve been through those times and are reminded of all we’ve learned and are still learning.

I’ve followed Andrew on Instagram for about a year, so I thought I would’ve seen all the artwork, but with over 180 pages of drawings, there’s many here I’ve never seen. Plus, they look even better in full-sized prints. There’s also thirteen illustrated essays that run four pages each, covering everything from travel and milestones to finding your style.

The artwork is grouped into chapters covering topics like Overcoming Uncertainty and Creating Home, and there’s lots of insights on all the ups and downs of dating, changing jobs, and moving to a new city. There's great bits of humor, and it's also inspiring in how she gained strength and maturity from even the worst moments of grief and confusion.

The book itself couldn’t be presented better. The cover has a great texture, the endpapers are painted with watercolor brushstrokes, the pages are thick so the artwork doesn’t show through, the colors are vibrant, and the font for the essays has a stylish flair.

I love Mari Andrew's Instagram and I was so excited to preorder her book. It is actually a lot longer and has more pages/ illustrations than I thought it would be, which was such a nice surprise. I have followed her illustration work for a bit but I had no idea that she was such a talented writer too. The essays are so refreshing, and the way she has divided the book up into different topics is really lovely.

As someone who is about to graduate college and embark on a first job/live in a new city, I have found Mari's perspective so delightful and helpful. I've also shared her work with other friends my age and everyone who I've shown the book to has said that they want a copy of their own. This would make an excellent gift for people who are still figuring out things in their 20s or even a long distance best friend.

Started following Mari on Instagram a while back and really enjoyed her illustrations. I am 22 and after experiencing my first heartbreak (the end of a 6.5 year relationship) I noticed how much her Instagram posts started to either relate to me or brighten my day when I was feeling down. At a very tough/confusing time in my life where I felt as though all of my future plans were suddenly erased and a huge part of my identity was now gone, this book made me feel optimistic. Maybe it is because of Mari's own optimism in hard situations, maybe it is just her positive outlook and examples of her fun adventures that give me hope to have my own fun adventures, but mostly I think a lot of it is knowing that I am not alone in this. Adult life is weird and difficult and wonderful all at once for everybody. This book is a great reminder of that. Highly recommend (to everyone - not just those of us who are experiencing a hard time).

This may be the best book that I have ever purchased. It is an achingly vulnerable, tender illustration of what it feels like to (try to) grow up. If it it was possible for a hug to jump out of a book, it would have jumped out of this one. There is something philanthropic about writing about one’s own deep fears and anxieties and feels in a way that quietly persuades readers that they are neither alone nor crazy. Thank you Mari for sharing your talent with words and illustrations. Thank you for reminding us that human life - even average daily life - is beautiful and confusing and full of joy. Your book truly is a gift to the world. I cherished it instantly and will cherish for years to come. Thank you.

I am a big fan of the author and I love her Instagram. I pre-ordered this book and received it...upside down! The printing and binding was a mess. The cover and insides were printed in two different directions. Inside was upside down. Some texts and pictures were cut off. Amazon gave me a refund and offered to send a replacement book but I declined. I live overseas and couldn't take the disappointment of two misprinted books. From what I can see the book is great though.

I've followed Andrew on Instagram for ages, and her posts always brighten my day on my morning scroll. Her illustrations are wonderful, with smart and hilarious captions. She is one of my favorite artists, not just because of her work but also because of the joy from which she creates. Her essays in this book and smart, sweet, and comforting–-learning more about her experience with Guillain-Barré Syndrome made me write down a list this morning about things I want to learn and work on in my life. I'm so glad I got this (and finished it in hours). I can't wait for another book!

I can confidently say this is one of the best books I've come across. Mari's ability to be so honest about life (the good, the bad, the ugly) makes it so easy to relate and literally makes me think "I thought I was the only one that ever felt that way, but I'm so glad I'm not." I've never read a book I've resonated with more or that gave me such perspective on any of my struggles on my own zigzagging journey. In addition to being a great illustrator, Mari also surprised me in being a fantastic writer - it's like reading a book by a best friend written just for you. Love love love it!

This book will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. With signature authenticity, Andrew relates her version of the human experience with style and levity. The essays are well written and interesting, and the drawings sometimes deep, fun, or mostly a well executed intersection of the two. I highly recommend this book! It is also a high quality publication and great to have on the coffee table, my guests love picking it up and looking through it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A whimsical, heartfelt illustrated book by a talented artist and writer.

A wonderfully funny, inspiring, and heartwarming read. Finds a great balance between tackling tough subjects like grief and hearbreak while inspiring a sense of optimism.
Great balance of text and illustration. Text provides meaningful context to Mari's wonderful illustrations and inspires deeper reflection on the points or questions she raises. Recommended read for anyone who has struggled at all with questions about their relationships, jobs, purpose etc.

I do wish that the book wasn't quite so heteronormative and amatonormative *but* it does represent the author's own (straight, monogamy-seeking) journey so it totally makes sense; I won't fault her for that. Basically, I loved it so much that I can't help but want to see a similar book that represents other relationship styles, orientations, etc. and their inherent joys and challenges in such a relatable way.
