As talented as Leonard Wooley was, and as grateful as we must be to him for his efforts at Ur, he was not perfect, and his original edition of this volume is marred by the religious beliefs that he allowed to guide his interpretation of the evidence. This revised and updated edition is in every way a superior product. The religious fanatics can have Wooley's original edition, and they can scream "censorship" all they want, giving no thought to what that word actually means. This is the edition that serious students will want to have.

Book was billed as being in very good condition, which it was. Closer to excellent, I would even say. Price was quite reasonable. Free shipping. What also drew me to this seller was their mission to earmark their profits to benefit local schools and libraries. It doesn't get any better than that!

I have 2 other books regarding UR and this one has some of the background I need, since Sir Woolley was the principal discoverer. It is well written and interesting, giving some facts I had not read or heard of before. I am writing a who-dunnit mystery interactive play which supposedly takes place in the diggings of the city of UR -- strictly make-believe based on fact - ha!

This is a great follow up to the Amazon"s "Great Courses" lecture on archaeology.

Taking refereence to bible out was not good. Some of us still believe the bible and in God.

This is a review of Sir Leonard Woolley's Excavations at Ur in the current edition, not the previous original monograph which is far superior.
